[ Legacy of Kain: The Lost Worlds ]

Fan-Produced Material

article by Ben Lincoln

In 2001, shortly after getting Kain's clan symbol tattooed on my arm, I had a full-size clan banner printed up on vinyl at a franchise copy center. They were offering an introductory special on vinyl printing, so despite its considerable size (approximately 3 feet by 5 feet) it was only about half as expensive as my tattoo.

Two years later, Willow Ayala and I created mock case art for the games depicted in Three Legacy of Kain Titles Announced for 2003. More images are available in that article. This case art was printed at the same franchise copy center, who in the interim had begun a ridiculously draconian enforcement of their policy against printing anything containing copyrighted material without written permission from the owner. Although I was able to escape with the case art, it seems unlikely any of their branches will ever print similar items again. Those wishing to print fan art for personal use should consider asking their local copy centers instead.

Divine Shadow also created mock case art for his 2003 April Fool's joke, and was kind enough to send me one for my collection. Doll Reaver: Legacy of Turelzevir was based on numerous fan forum in-jokes of the era, such as the Star Wars references which were abundant in Blood Omen 2 and Divine Shadow's expressed desire to see Defiance (then referred to as "Soul Reaver 3") feature the return of both the vampire Turel and Elzevir the Dollmaker.
